I was very pleased when I saw Linda kindly pointed out LA YIN as one of the three good business ideas in her article in SvD.

Why is the Scandinavian design style as the way it is?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

I fell in love with Scandinavian design after having lived in Sweden for a couple of years and after having worked with very talented designers. Being trained as a research scientist, I tend to intellectualize everything. So I have been asking why the Scandinavian design style as the way it is; why every Swedish is aware of design, why IKEA, why H&M? I came across a book ‘Scandinavian Style’ by Ingrid Sommar: ‘To understand the durable simplicity that has developed in the north ….. you have to go back to many centuries to the peasant societies that originally dominated the region…’. Yes, it makes sense. I also think many centuries of democratic or socialist ideals in the north has contributed to the Scandinavian style and the notion of design for all. But then why these democratic and socialist ideals are in the north?

inspiration during the weekend

Monday, August 18th, 2008

This Saturday I went to my dear friend Eva Nielsen’s (also a LA YIN panel member) Vernissage at Lumabiblioteket in Hammarby Sjöstad. I loved all her painting - they are unlike any other paintings. Hers are full of unpredictable artistic creativity. She’s a true artist. I admired her energy and creativity. Although as a working mom of two small kids, and painting is only her hobby, Eva has such an incredible ability to zoom her focus such that ten minutes time here and there have resulted in her many very fine and highly creative paintings. I wish I could have that ability. Well done Eva. I look forward for more vernissages!

My favorite technology pieces

Friday, August 15th, 2008

My most favorite is my MacBook air. It feels good touching it, or holding it. I in particular appreciate that the start up time is much faster than any PCs that I’ve used. It’s divine. I used it while riding the train to work. I wished I could have a tightly fit and nice looking case to wrap around it. And it should be no fuss when taking out from the bag to start working away on the train. It should be no time consuming when suddenly the train arrives at the platform and I need to put away the computer and get off the train. I couldn’t find anything in the shops so I have the needs addressed in our product portfolio. I feel other women would have similar needs too. Now the LA YIN MacBook Air sleeves are available here.

My second most favorite is my iPOD. But I found one thing annoying, the wires of the earphones prevent me from putting it into my hand bag, so I have to hang it around my neck. If I run for the train or something, it jumps wildly in in front of me. Does anyone out there have similar problems? Perhpas nobody runs as crazy as I do.

Estee Lauder

Friday, August 15th, 2008

My first desire to create a business and to give ourselves something beautiful came from the inspiration of reading Estee Lauder’s autobiography over 4 years ago. It was just before my daughter’s birth. To underly my admiration for Estee Lauder’s determination, I named my daughter Estella.

After the launch, I felt a need to read her story again. And I did. This time I read it from an entrepreneur’s perspective. I had even more appreciation to what her journey illustrated to me.

So, what’s next?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

After the launch, many asked me ‘So, what’s next?’. Well, the start of the LA YIN movement to have a high tech world with more feminine elements, is also the beginning of a start-up company. So the immediate step is nothing but sales sales and still sales. This may sound boring but is vital for any entrepreneur to succeed. I have tremendous admiration for entrepreneurs who have come out of this vital phase to the success.
